Geoff A. thought the following event would be of interest to residents of 192 Jarvis:
Crisis in the Congo: Voices of Hope
Millions of Congolese have lost their lives in a conflict that the United Nations describes as the deadliest in the world since World War Two. The 1996 and 1998 invasions of the Congo by Rwanda and Uganda triggered enormous losses of lives, systemic sexual violence and rape, and widespread looting of Congo’s spectacular natural wealth. Is there any hope for their future?
Join us for a screening of the powerful and thought-provoking documentary Crisis in the Congo: Uncovering the Truth. The film will be followed by two very exciting speakers: Dr. Bodia Bavuidi and Claude Gatebuke.
Dr. Bodia Bavuidi is a native of DR Congo. She initiated Friends of the Congo Canada in 2009 and has served as president. She lectures on Postcolonial Studies and Fiction at the University of Guelph.
Claude Gatebuke is the executive director and co-founder of the African Great Lakes Action Network, an organization focused on justice, peace, and prosperity in the Great Lakes region of Africa.
